Fall armyworm | The Integrated Pest Management technology capsule involves the following components Application of critical input neem cake (500 kg/ha) at the time of last ploughingrogue spacing (75 cm for every 10 rows)mass trapping with pheromone traps (50/ha)border cropping with eco-feast crops like cowpea, sunflower and gingelly for encouraging natural enemy fauna andwindow based insecticide application (as follows) Early whorl stage (15 – 20 DAS) Azadirachtin 1% EC 1000 ml/haEmamectin benzoate 5 SG 200 g/haNovaluron 10 EC 750 ml/ha Late whorl stages (40-45 DAS) Metarhizium anisopliae @ 1 x 108 cfu/g @ 4 kg/haSpinetoram 12 SC 250 ml/haThiodicarb 75 WP 1 kg/haFlubendiamide 480 SC 150 ml/haChlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC 250 ml/ha The insecticides meant for the second window can be applied on a need basis during tassel/ cob formation stage |
Shoot fly (Atherigona orientalis ) | Mix 10 g of imidacloprid 48% FS or imidacloprid 70% WS or 8 g of thiamethoxam 30% FS per kg of seed and shade dry. Set up the TNAU low cost fish meal trap 12/ha till the crop is 30 days old. Apply any one of the following insecticides: Carbofuran 3%CG 33.3 kg/ha or Dimethoate 30%EC or 1155 ml/ha or Monocrotophos 36% SL @ 625 ml/ha. |
Stem borer (Chilo partellus) | Release egg parasitoid Trichogramma chilonis @ 12 cc/ha coinciding egg laying period thrice at weekly interval. Conserve the larval parasitoid Cotesia flavipes. Carbofuran 3% CG @33.3 kg/ha may be applied. If granular insecticides are not used, dimethoate 30% EC 660 ml/ha may be sprayed. |
Disease management
Downy mildew or Crazy Top (Peronosclerospora Sorghi) | Sow resistant hybrid TNAU maize hybrid CO-6 and COH (M) 8Rogue out downy mildew infected plantsSpray metalaxyl + mancozeb @ 1000 g or mancozeb 1000 g/ha at 20 days after sowing CIB recommendation Treat the seeds with metalaxyl-M 31.8% ES @ 2.4 ml/kg seed or with metalaxyl 35% WS @ 700gms with a dilution of 0.75 to 1ltr / 100 kg seeds. |
Turcicum leaf blight: (Exserohilum turcicum) and Maydis leaf blight:(Helminthosporium maydis) | Spray mancozeb or zineb @ 2-4 g/l on appearance of the disease and repeat at 10 days interval, if necessary seed treatment with Pseudomonas fluorescens @ 10g/ kg and spray propiconazole 25% EC @ 0.1% on 35 and 50 DAS CIB recommendation Spray kresoxim-methyl 44.3% SC @ 1 ml/ l of water |
